The short answer
To import an Excel tracker into Bridge X, open Tasks, choose Import and upload your .xlsx or .csv file. Bridge X suggests which column is which, shows a preview of every change, and saves only after you confirm. You can undo the whole import afterwards.
Step by step
- Upload. Choose the file. Any layout works; a template with the recommended columns is available to download.
- Match columns. Bridge X suggests the title, status, owner, project and due date columns from your headers. Change any suggestion.
- Resolve differences. Statuses, people and projects it does not recognise are listed. Map a status to one of the six task statuses, a name to a team member, a project to an existing or new project.
- Preview. See what will be created, updated or skipped, and any rows with problems, before anything is written.
- Confirm and, if needed, undo. The import is saved as a batch you can reverse.
Rules that keep your data safe
- Blank cells never overwrite existing values.
- Rows are matched by task ID, then by row key, then by title within a project, so re-importing an updated sheet updates tasks instead of duplicating them.
- Past-due imported tasks do not trigger a flood of overdue emails.
- Members cannot assign work to others or create projects through import; those need the matching permissions.
After the import
The tasks appear in a table you can edit inline, and on a board. Each task shows how many days it has been in its status, so the work that has stalled is visible immediately. You can export everything back to .xlsx whenever you like. See also why teams move from Excel trackers and plans and pricing.
Frequently asked questions
What file types can I import?
Excel (.xlsx) and CSV (.csv) files. A downloadable template shows the recommended columns, but any layout works because columns are matched during import.
Will the import overwrite my existing tasks?
Only fields that have a value in your file are updated. Blank cells never overwrite existing data. The preview shows every create, update and skip before you confirm.
How does Bridge X decide whether a row is a new task or an existing one?
It matches on the Bridge X task ID if your file has one, then on a stable row key from an earlier import, then on the task title within the same project. Rows with duplicate titles are matched in order.
What if my statuses are different, like 'WIP' or 'Awaiting client'?
The preview lists each unrecognised value and lets you map it to one of the six task statuses. The mapping is remembered next time.
Can I undo an import?
Yes. Every import is recorded as a batch, and undoing it reverses the tasks it created and the changes it made.
Will importing old overdue tasks flood the team with reminders?
No. Imported tasks that are already past due are marked as already reminded, so the team is not sent a burst of overdue reminders for old rows.
